Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, or AI, are topics that are booming at the moment. Can you also do something with AI and Machine Learning in the field of product management? And if so, how can you make it work for you in combination with PIM or with your Product Management Software? At ConnectingTheDots we have been working on AI and Machine Learning in combination with product management for some time now. In this blog we want to present a number of practical possibilities that are relatively easy to apply in a PIM system.
You can apply Machine Learning to product images. Based on a product image, interesting information can be obtained through Machine Learning. Think of color indications, the type of product, and characteristics of the product. This information can then be used for a number of things.
First, the classification of products. Based on the information on a product image, such as the type of product, which a service such as Amazon Rekognition offers, a product can be classified in a PIM solution. Which can be an efficiency improvement if employees have to do this manually in PIM. Second, the features that are generated via Machine Learning. These can be used to automatically supplement missing product features for products in PIM.
AI can be used effectively to enrich product content. Think of product descriptions, product titles, etc. This works as follows. Product features are sent to an AI tool such as ChatGPT from PIM. Think of features such as product type, brand, color, material, season, etc. Based on this, an AI tool generates a product description that can be used on the product. In addition to an efficiency advantage, after all, the text does not have to be written by a product content specialist, the fact is that unique product content is generated. Of course, you can also go a step further. For example, you can also have multiple descriptions generated for a product via an AI tool
Of course, you could combine both examples. So first generate product features based on a product image. And based on these obtained features, generate product descriptions by an AI tool. In short, Machine Learning and AI are powerful instruments in the domain of product management.
The choice is yours! However, keep one thing in mind, make sure you always check the output (randomly). AI and Machine Learning do not work flawlessly yet.
